CAT B – 40 Nm offshore
- This course consists of three major components:
- Theory Course
- Practical skippering experience of 100 hours skippering a Cat B vessel
- Exam (consisting of a theory exam, practical exam and an oral exam)
- Most people come on this course already having skippered a vessel for the necessary minimum 100 hours (if you want to complete your practical experience under our guidance please contact us to discuss the costs and additional time needed, we will only consider assisting with training hours on your vessel).
- To skipper through the Kowie River Mouth you will have to have logged proof in your skippers letter showing that you have experience entering and exiting the river mouth in varying conditions on different days.
- We offer a pre exam practical check to ensure that you have the necessary skills to pass your practical and oral exams. We evaluate your practical abilities according to a pre-defined list and give you feed back as to where you are strong, weak, or unskilled.
THEORY COURSE
- Lectures are approximately 15 hours depending on the number of candidates.
- Please bring your skippers manual (we will arrange for this to be posted to you prior to the course or alternatively, you can collect it from an arranged location).
- Please bring a pen, soft pencil, eraser, calculator and lots of scrap paper.
EXAMINATION PROCESS
You will need to provide your own vessel to complete the practical exam.
Theory Exam and Practical Exam
- Exams will be scheduled for the second day of the theory course. Please note that homestudy is recommended prior to the course as you are writing your exam on the same day
- Practical exams will only be conducted onboard your vessel
- Separate exam dates can be requested, but these dates and times are structured as to the availability of the examiner and will incur a penalty fee.
