Cat R – Inland Skippers Course & Training

  1. This license consists of three major components:
    • Theory Course
    • Practical skippering of 25 hours completed under the guidance of a qualified skipper
    • Exam (consisting of a theory exam, practical exam and an oral exam)
  2. Most people come on this course already having skippered a vessel for the necessary 25 hours. If you want to complete your practical experience under our guidance please contact us to discuss the costs and additional time needed. By completing your hours through us, you will be able to claim a reduction in training hours, please contact us for more information.
  3. If you are new to boating and still need to log skippering experience please contact us for information on our Blended Newbie Theory and Practical Introductory Course. Many people decide on this option as a way of getting theoretical and basic practical boating experience as a start to logging their skipper’s practical hours.
  4. We also offer a pre-exam practical check to ensure that you have the necessary skills to pass your practical and oral exams. We evaluate your practical abilities according to a pre-defined list and give you feed back as to where you are strong, weak or unskilled.

THEORY COURSE

  1. Lectures are approximately 5 – 6 hours depending on the number of candidates.
  2. Please bring a pen.
  3. Manuals will be provided on the day of the course.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

  1. You will need to provide your own vessel or rent one of ours to complete the practical exam.

Theory Exam and Practical Exam

  1. Exams will be scheduled for the same day as your theory course.
  2. Separate exam dates can be requested, but these dates and times are structured as to the availability of the examiner and will incur an additional penalty fee.

EXAM REQUIREMENTS (Theory, practical and oral):

  1. If you elect to complete your exam on a different day to the day of your theory course, or if you don’t have the necessary paperwork you will be charged a penalty fee (the date to be convenient for the examiner).
  2. You will only be allowed to write your exam if you have given in all the required paperwork as listed below:
    • 1 x ID Photo (We now take this photo in the class at the beginning of the course)
    • Copy of your ID book or passport (Digital is preferable, email prior to course. PDF please)

We will send you a template which can be used for the skippers letter.
